Amigo Competition Sheet
WHY WE LOVE IT
Easy to fit most horses
Doesnt rub anywhere even when trotting/cantering
Easy to take off and on from the saddle
Secure fit, does not flop around
WHAT WE WOULD FIX
A bit on the shorter side
WHEN WE USE IT
Out on a hack on a humid / rainy day
To and from the indoor arena on windy/rainy days
During exersize on colder days, for jumping in colder days, we would probably use a wool blanket that fastnes in the girth, only covering the hind end.
During really rainy days, and especially on a competition day, we would probably rather buy a “Mack in a Sack” instead, to protect the horse and saddle better.
This sheet is almost perfect. It fits most horses. However we found that it is a bit short, both going back towards tail, and also down the sides. This does give a less floppy sheet when getting in to speed, and it lays fairly still on the horse.
LETS GET TECHNICAL
Its a quarter sheet that goes from in front of the saddle, and back to the tail
Its waterproof (600 denier)
Has a fleece lining
This means that when your horse gets sweaty, the sweat will be picked up by the fleece lining, and then sent out through the outer waterproof layer to vaporate. This to make sure your horse stays dry from the inside as well.
It fastens in front of the saddle with a double velcro. It feels secure, and I would never expect it to fall open mid ride.
It has a tail strap that is fastened to two d-rings with a simple knot. It can easily be removed for cleaning.
There are two reflective areas that will make sure cars coming from the back can see the horse.
This is a lightweight rug that easily fits into a normal washing machine. We would not recommend to do it too often as the waterproofing would suffer each time. If washed in a washing machine most brands recommend using a detergent specially made for waterproof rugs. Stains on the outside layer can be easily removed with a damp cloth.
The velcro in front of the saddle fits most saddles I have used.
It is cut to fit around saddle. If you have a normal saddle pad, the sheet will not interfere behind the saddle.
As previously stated, it is a bit on the shorter side, but does cover the horse good enough.
It can be used under the saddle flaps, or over. We would suggest using it under for a hack, and over if you are just using it to the indoor arena. (and then removing it)
It has a cutaway to allow your legs full contact with the horse.
